For this project Julieta and me had to choose a material for a solifleur (a vase for one or a few flowers). We chose stone because it was a challenge, we had never had to work with it, thus we found some difficulties along the way. Part of the exercise was finding a workshop for the production of the piece, which turned out to be very difficult, because nobody was willing to work with our free-flowing designs.
After all, we found someone who could do our designs. We learned that sometimes the viability of the project isn’t up to the material, but to the artisan. Under the hands of this woman, the stone took shape and transformed from a solid block into organic and flowing vases.
The name Blob stems from the bulbous shapes of these pieces. A blob is a seemingly shapeless, pseudo organic form. We wanted to make some pieces that followed this concept, creating an object with a flow, that although not symmetrical, has a balance to it.
